Gran Fondo / Bentonville, Arkansas
Bentonville Sunday
Day Two of the ultimate cycling experience features a different set of road courses. The courses on Sunday starts with a gentle warmup heading north out of town, and travels through picturesque countryside into the rolling hills of Missouri before heading back down into Arkansas, approaching Bentonville from the east. With only a 5,000 ft elevation gain for the Gran and 2,900 ft for the Medio, these courses are a gentler option than the aggressive hills on Saturday, but both days feature a finish in downtown Bentonville with a big celebration at our free Family Fun Festival!

DAY 2, LET’S GO! Sunday’s courses will see all participants traveling north out of town, passing some of the famous monuments and artwork that Bentonville has become known for. As opposed to the ease of the first 20 miles of the Saturday Gran course, Sunday’s first 20 miles will feature hilly terrain that will challenge riders a little bit earlier. But not to fear, at mile 16 riders will cross the state line into Missouri and things will become FAST!
The terrain for the next 40 miles is through beautiful wide-open countryside and features three timed segments clocking in at 10, 7, and 6 miles long. Those vying for top honors for one or more of the timed segments will need to have strong legs, and maybe a few friends to help!
After blasting through the fast, serpentine roads of Southwest Missouri, Gran riders make their way back into Arkansas near the town of Pea Ridge. One final rest stop and the finish is in sight!
Riders will hit our Timed Finish Line three miles away from our Family Fun Festival, and these last three miles will be a neutral ride to the festival grounds where family and friends await to celebrate the day with you! You just conquered an epic 86-mile course!
If a challenging, but fast, 45-mile Sunday ride with an epic party at the finish doesn’t sound like the perfect Sunday Funday, we don’t know what does! Sunday’s Medio riders will start amongst the same fanfare featured on Saturday upon leaving the start line and heading north through downtown Bentonville.
As opposed to the ease of the first 20 miles of the Saturday Medio course, Sunday’s first 20 miles will feature hilly terrain that will challenge riders a little bit earlier. Not to fear, at mile 16 riders will cross the state line into Missouri and things will become FAST! At mile 20, Medio riders will reach the first rest stop of the day and have the opportunity for quick recovery and to take in a little music. With a little refreshment and inspiration Medio riders will depart Rest Stop #1 and head east, while Gran riders will head west. Don’t worry, everyone will be back at the post ride festival to celebrate together soon enough!
The next 20 miles feature fast rolling roads in the open countryside of Southern Missouri and Northwest Arkansas. Medio riders will also reach the first of two timed segments at Mile 23. This six mile long segment follows Pine Creek through open farm land and rolling hills. The finish of the segment is at the Missouri-Arkansas Stateline! Who will be the first back to Arkansas?
After blasting through the fast, serpentine roads of Southwest Missouri, Medio riders make their way back into Arkansas near the town of Pea Ridge. One final rest stop, and the finish is in sight! The final five miles feature the same beautiful route back into Bentonville and the renowned hospitality of Gran Fondo Hincapie at the post ride festival and expo. Riders will hit our Timed Finish Line three miles away from our Family Fun Festival, and these last three miles will be a neutral ride to the festival grounds where family and friends await to celebrate the day with you! You just conquered an epic 45-mile course!
Riders taking on Sunday’s Piccolo course are sure to find an abundance of both fun and challenge! Piccolo riders will travel north through Downtown Bentonville and up the opposite side of the Oz Castle climb from Saturday’s course. What a great opportunity to test those climbing legs early!
At mile six, Piccolo riders will make a right turn while Gran and Medio riders will make a left. Great news—you are going to be among the first back to the party at the post ride Family Festival! But first, there are still 11 miles of beautiful Northwest Arkansas Road to conquer.
Sunday’s Piccolo timed segment is longer than Saturday’s at three miles long. While the first 2.5 miles of the segment are flat and fast, pace yourself carefully as there is a bit of a hill at the end. Those who rode on Saturday will remember the final climb well: it’s the Oz Castle Climb yet again! Blast your way to the top, and you are home free! Make your way back through Bentonville, cruise across the red carpet, and get ready for an epic celebration! YOU MADE IT!!

ARE THERE TIME LIMITS OR CUTOFF TIMES ON THE COURSES? add
Yes. Courses are being finalized soon and we will send out more information.
HOW DO RIDERS LINE UP AT THE START? add
Gran Fondo Hincapie uses a traditional mass start where all riders will start at the same time. Riders will line up on a first come, first served basis starting at 6:00 AM. We suggest that all Piccolo Family Fun riders line up towards the back of the corral. The start corrals and start procedure are subject to change at any time as event and local officials see fit. All Gran, Medio, and Piccolo riders will start together at 7:00 AM.
WHAT IS THE REFUND OR TRANSFER POLICY IF I AM UNABLE TO ATTEND THE EVENT? add
Included in your Gran Fondo Hincapie registration is an event jersey, finisher medal, wristband, racing bib, and several other miscellaneous costs that cannot be reimbursed to the company. All of these items are ordered months ahead of the event. For that reason, the Gran Fondo Hincapie series has a strict no refund or event deferral policy on registration fees. More information about this policy can be found here. At the time of registration, you will have the option to purchase third party Registration Insurance through Allianz. This may allow you to be reimbursed for the cost of registration if a situation arises and you are unable to attend the event. Insurance MUST be purchased at the time of registration; it cannot be purchased once your registration is complete. All Registration Insurance questions or claims need to be submitted directly to Allianz. More information about this insurance can be found here. If you are unable to attend, you may have a friend pick up your packet on-site at the event. Or, you may contact our office BEFORE the event and request to have your packet mailed to you for a shipping charge of $12. We are not able to store unclaimed packets and merchandise after each event. After the event, any pre-ordered merchandise is considered abandoned and inventory will no longer be reserved.
CAN I TRANSFER MY REGISTRATION TO SOMEONE ELSE IF I AM NOT ABLE TO ATTEND? add
Yes. If online registration is still open, you can do this online by logging in to your Bikereg account and selecting Transfer on your registration. After online registration closes, you can still transfer your registration to another rider onsite by having the new person pick up the rider packet under the original rider’s name. Once the new rider has the packet, they should go to the Registration Transfer tent to have the registration switched out in the system with their information. It is very important that we have the correct name, age, and emergency contact information for each participant. Please have the new rider bring authorization for transferring the registration (a text, email, note, etc from the original purchaser that can be shown to the volunteers).
WHAT HAPPENS IF SEVERE INCLEMENT WEATHER OR OTHER EVENTS BEYOND ANYONE'S REASONABLE CONTROL RESULT IN THE CANCELLATION OF THE EVENT? add
Because we incur substantial costs in connection with producing the Gran Fondo event that cannot be recovered, including the cost of providing you with the items in your rider packets, the Gran Fondo Series has a strict no cash refund policy on registration fees. Thus, if we cancel a Gran Fondo event because of an event beyond our reasonable control, including without limitation acts of God; severe inclement weather; flood, fire, earthquake, explosion, or other potential disasters or catastrophes, such as epidemics; war, invasion, hostilities (whether war is declared or not), terrorist threats or acts, riot or other civil unrest; government order or law; actions, embargoes or blockades in effect on or after the date of this Agreement; action by any governmental authority; national, regional, state or local emergency; strikes, labor stoppages or slowdowns or other industrial disturbances; shortage of adequate power or transportation facilities; or other events beyond our reasonable control, we cannot offer you a cash refund of your registration fees, nor can we reimburse you for any of your travel or lodging costs. Instead, we will allow you to transfer your registration to a Gran Fondo Hincapie event scheduled within the next year at no cost. Registrants will receive an email to the email address they used when registering for the canceled ride with a unique code to use to transfer the registration.
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS? add
Gran Fondo Hincapie will start rain or shine; however, in the event of a severe storm or inclement weather, authorities may decide to cancel the event and will make the call at the last minute. See here for further information regarding the cancellation of an event.
WHAT IF I WANT TO CHANGE MY ROUTE/DISTANCE? add
If you would like to change your route before the online registration deadline has ended, you can log into your BikeReg account and initiate the transfer there. You will be responsible for all additional costs and fees if you decide to upgrade to a longer distance. If you decide to make a last-minute change, you can pick up your packet during packet pickup and then go to the Registration Transfer line. It’s very important that every rider is registered for the correct route so that our finish results are accurate. If you would like to change days please call for more information.
ARE THERE MECHANICS ON THE COURSE? add
We highly encourage all participants to know basic safety and repair skills, including how to fix a flat tire. Be prepared and bring your own pump or CO2 and extra tubes for your bike. However, if you are still unable to make the repair, SAG drivers will be following all ride routes and can assist you with any minor mechanical issues you may have.
HOW MANY AID STATIONS (REST STOPS) WILL BE ON THE COURSE? add
The Gran route on Saturday will have 3 aid stations, the Medio route will have 1 aid stations, and the Piccolo Family Fun Ride will not have any aid stations For the Sunday courses, the Gran route will have 4 aid stations, the Medio route will have 2 rest stops. and the Piccolo will not have any. All rest stops will be stocked with food, water, and other supplies.
WILL THE ROADS BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC? add
Some, but not all, roads will be closed to vehicle traffic. Riders should always stay to the right side of the road unless otherwise directed. Riders must always obey the direction of local law enforcement and course marshals. In the absence of law enforcement and/or course marshals, riders must obey all local and state traffic laws.
WHAT TYPE OF BIKE CAN I RIDE FOR THE EVENT? add
We suggest using a road bike as it is the best option to ride in groups. You can also ride a mountain bike, touring bike, Ebike or single speed (with two brakes). A triathlon bike is fine as long as you keep your hands on the brake lever while riding in a group. Recumbent bikes are allowed on the Piccolo course only. Ebikes are permitted on all courses, but participants riding ebikes are not eligible for podium awards. Tandem bikes, trailers and bike seats are not allowed for safety reasons. Carbon clincher rim brake wheels are not permitted on the Gran course for the Greenville event, as the descent down Skyuka is extremely steep. They are permitted on the Medio and Piccolo courses. Disc brake carbon wheels are allowed on all courses.
ARE EBIKES ALLOWED? add
Ebikes are permitted on all courses, but participants riding ebikes are not eligible for podium awards. We will split out ebike participants into a separate category for the results online. Please indicate whether or not you are riding an ebike when you register for the ride. You can log back into your Bikereg account and update this at any time after you register.
HOW WILL REGISTRATION PRICES DIFFER IF WE REGISTER FOR BOTH DAYS? add
There will be a discounted price to add a second day to your Gran Fondo Hincapie registration; however, you must register for both days at the same time.
HOW WILL PACKET PICKUP DIFFER SINCE THIS IS A TWO DAY EVENT? add
You may pick up your packet on Friday for both the Saturday AND Sunday rides. Saturday morning packet pickup will be for Saturday participants only. You may pickup your Sunday packet after the ride start Saturday morning.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? add
We encourage every rider to check the weather forecast a few days ahead of the event and dress to their comfort level for the conditions of the day. Helmets with buckled chin straps are a requirement for all riders and must be worn at all times. Headphones of any kind are not allowed. Finally, make sure your bib number is pinned to the back of your jersey and is always visible on course. You may choose to wear the event jersey if you would like, but it is not required.
